Chapter 6

Three years…
I couldn’t believe that jerk and that tramp had been fooling around even before my mom got sick.
Thinking about how my mom was kept in the dark until the day she died made me want to drive my fist right into my dad’s temple!
But I had to hold it in.
I forced a smile and continued massaging his head slowly.
“Lexie, you know, I’ve been really worn out these past few years. How about you take over managing the company for now? When I have a son in the future, you can hand it over to him.”
My dad looked at me with a hint of satisfaction.
Hearing this, my eyes lit up.
It was clear he wanted to use me to keep the company stable until he had a son, then hand it over to him.
But if he really did give it to me, there was no way I would let it go.
I pretended to be flattered. “Oh, I don’t think that’s right, Dad. This is supposed to be my future brother’s company.”
……
“Nonsense. I want to take a break for a few years. It’s settled. From now on, you’ll run the company. My secretary will help you.”
Without giving me a chance to argue, he rubbed his temple and closed his eyes.
Before long, I had taken over the company, and my dad was already on the hunt for his next girlfriend.
As for Megan and Brandon, the staff threw out their clothes, stripped off their jewelry, and kicked them out of the house with nothing.
On my way to the office, I ran into them.
It had only been a few days, but they looked haggard. Their faces were pale, lips cracked, and they were wearing worn-out, shabby clothes. A broken bowl sat in front of them as they crouched on the street, begging.
A far cry from the life of luxury they once enjoyed in my home.
I glanced at the empty begging bowl in front of them. There was not a single coin inside. It looked like they hadn’t gotten a penny.
I gave a faint smile and told my assistant to buy a moldy piece of bread. I tossed it into their broken bowl.
As they stared at me in stunned silence, I smiled again.
“What are you looking at?
“This is all you deserve.”
With that, I walked away, leaving Megan and Brandon screaming curses at my back.
……
I quickly settled into running the company. In my previous life, I had some experience managing it, so the work wasn’t new to me.
As awful as my dad was, he knew how to run a business.
So it didn’t take much effort on my part to keep things running smoothly.
But managing the company wasn’t my main goal.
I had something else in mind.
After work, while grabbing a bubble tea, I was cornered by a group of thugs in an alley.
Leading them were Brandon and Paul.
The scene was so familiar, it threw me off for a moment.
In my past life, Megan had already married into our family by this point, and her behavior had become even more overbearing. Brandon, always eager to follow her lead, treated me just as cruelly as she did.
Those two scumbags, along with Paul, had trapped me in this very alley. They assaulted me and filmed it, threatening to release the video if I didn’t pay them half a million dollars.
I managed to scrape together three hundred thousand, but the next day, the video spread like wildfire in every group chat.
My life was ruined.
I never saw the light again.
Later, Brandon grew even more reckless. During one of his stunts, he and Megan pushed me down the stairs. I lay there, struggling for ten hours, and not a single person came to help.
I died in agony.
I hated them with every fiber of my being.
Brandon’s beady eyes scanned me as he sneered, “Lexie, my dad says if you give us half a million dollars, we’ll let you go. If not, well… hehe.”
