Though not as luxurious as my family's home, it was much larger.
"This will be your home from now on," he said plainly.
I took small steps toward him, hugged his waist, and looked up to ask:
"So what do I need to do to play along?"
His body stiffened slightly as he reached out to pinch my cheek: "You're just like your brother—bold enough to touch whatever you want."
"But you touched me first," I mumbled softly. "You pushed me into the car, and now you're pinching me."
He seemed at a loss for words, quickly withdrawing his hand and turning around with a slight stammer:
"Quick-witted... your brother probably won Lily Smith over the same way."
Whether from my persistence or just dumb luck, my relationship with Ethan Shaw suddenly took a dramatic turn.
He said if I could get Lily Smith to return to him on her own, he would grant me one wish.
So I came up with a wicked idea:
"Let's pretend to be a couple. You can spoil me, love me, treat me like gold. Maybe Lily will get jealous when she sees it."
"Lily isn't the jealous type." He didn't quite agree.
"But my brother treats her like a queen. If you treat me even better, she might start having second thoughts."
"You might be onto something."
He reached out and pulled me into his arms. That faint cologne made me feel drowsy and content.
Suddenly, I heard the system's voice in my ear.
"This terrible idea of yours won't make the male lead fall in love with you."
"It's too foolish. Be careful not to fall too deep and get hurt."
"Hey! Are you listening to me?"
This system was stuck with me because of a bug.
It was originally supposed to be bound to my brother, but by some twist of fate, it followed me instead.
I ignored it and just hugged Ethan Shaw tighter, refusing to let go.
