The rogue army charged through the broken and ruined gates, moving with a sense of urgency. My heart was seriously thumping loudly in my chest, like a drum that wouldn't stop, pushing me to do something, to respond to the situation.
'Adams!" I mind-linked, trying to get his attention. Lexi caught a quick sight of our mate as he began to change, his body transforming further, his Lycan features gradually taking over.
His muscles moved and shifted beneath the bright, fiery fur that covered him. He was a strong and fierce wolf, fully prepared to take charge.
'Do not move from that spot, Lilith!" he growled with his voice deep and rough. As he jumped into the chaos of the fight, his strong arms and legs pushed him ahead with great force.
I felt a mix of emotions inside me as I had control of my body; I was proud of him for being so brave, but at the same time, I couldn't shake off the feeling of anxiety and concern.
However, I found myself unable to move from my spot. I couldn't fight alongside him against the rogues. My responsibility now was to take care of those who got hurt and needed healing.
While standing there, I tightly clenched my fists, watching very closely as the first soldier collapsed to the ground, with blood spreading out around him like a dark puddle.
"Help is on the way," I whispered softly, trying to muster up some courage in my voice as I hurried to his side to assist him.
'Your Highness! I really can't—" he said, breathing heavily and holding onto his side as if he was in pain.
'Wait a moment!" I exclaimed with urgency. I placed my hands firmly against his wounds, and the heat of his blood soaked through my fingers. I focused all my energy and felt a comforting warmth flow from me into him.
This warmth was powerful and began to help his torn skin heal and mend. I dedicated all of my strength and determination to this act of healing, wanting to do everything I could to help him recover.
Next to me, Adeline was fighting with all her strength while in her wolf form. She was growling loudly, and her fierce snarls mixed with the growls of the wild beasts that were attacking us.
"Get back, My Queen!" she shouted urgently, snapping her powerful jaws at one of the rogue creatures that attempted to jump over her. "I'm going to clear a path for us!"
"I really have to help those people!" I replied quickly, my eyes moving back and forth between the hurt individuals. "We cannot allow them to be left behind or to fall into further trouble."
'Then please heal quickly!" Adeline urged me insistently. She shifted her body, expertly tackling another rogue opponent that had come our way, her sharp claws slicing through the air with great swiftness.
The battle raged on like an unending storm, with troubles erupting all around at every clash of fangs and the deep growls of the combatants.
I took a brief moment to glance over at Adams. I noticed him as he skillfully took down a rogue opponent with surprising ease, but I could also see that his focus wavered for just a tiny fraction of a second.
"Adams!" I called out once more to his mind, but he was too concentrated to hear me.
The rogues were just too many. They just kept coming and coming, showing no sign of stopping as they chased after our pack.
'Be careful, Lilith! Look out behind you!" Adeline yelled loudly, bringing me back to the situation I was in as a rogue enemy suddenly attacked me. I quickly turned my body, managing to dodge him just in the nick of time.
However, I felt a strong urge to heal myself, which distracted me from the fight going on all around me.
Every single part of me wanted to turn and run, to let Lexi out again, so we could join Adams and Ted in the battle, but I knew I had to remain where I was for now.
I noticed another soldier making his way toward me with great difficulty, struggling to stay upright as he walked.
There was blood running down his side, oh, no, he was hurt. In a faint voice, he cried out for help, and then he suddenly collapsed right before me, falling down at my feet.
"Please, stay with me! Just take a deep breath," I said urgently as I knelt down next to him. I gently placed my hands over the injuries he had to try to help him.
Focusing my attention on the process of healing, I distinctly felt the burden of the battle weighing down on us.
"Be strong," Lexi's comforting voice came.
"Yeah, I will. We are in it together." I responded back to her.
My heart was racing fast, and I knew that I needed to finish the healing as quickly as possible. Time was of importance, and every second was very critical.
'Lilith!" Adeline's voice rang out in panic, drawing my attention back to her. She was pressed hard against a rogue, who was dangerously close, with sharp teeth snapping just inches away from her face.
I felt strengthened and began to stand up, but before I could call out her name, I placed my hand on the ground to help push myself up. At that moment, someone stepped through the broken gates that had splintered apart.
Augustus' presence made the cold air feel even chillier. When he appeared on the battlefield, my heart sank deeply within me as I felt his dark energy enveloping the scene. It was like an ominous shadow that consumed any glimmer of hope we still had.
One of the soldiers bravely charged toward him, but with just a slight movement of his wrist, Augustus completely destroyed him. The soldier's body fell to the ground, lifeless and without any sign of life left in it.
'Enough of this..." Augustus boomed, his voice dripping with malevolence. The battle dulled around him, as if the very air were sucking the fight from our soldiers.
'Lilith," he said, gazing intensely at me. All I saw was a fierce and hungry look in his eyes. 'I am here to take what rightfully belongs to me…"
