Chapter 8

"One more thing! Stay away from my girlfriend. If I see you near her again, I’ll beat you up every time!"
Felix suddenly curled his lips into a malicious smile. He then said slowly, emphasizing each word, "Chris, did you know that Lexie had a miscarriage because of me?"
My heart skipped a beat.

I could not believe how low this man would go, using the memory of an unborn child to hurt me.
Chris kicked him hard in the chest, putting his full strength into it.
Felix writhed on the ground in pain.
Chris looked ready to beat him more, but I stopped him.
Felix smirked triumphantly, but the next second, his smile froze.
I studied him closely and then slapped him hard across the face.

My sharp nails left bloody marks on his skin.
In a cold voice, I said, enunciating each word, "Felix, that slap was for you. You truly disgust me.
"I may not have had the chance to be with that child, but the last thing he did for his mother was to show me what kind of man you really are. So, I will protect his memory."
Seeing the panic in his eyes and the color drain from his face, I felt an immense sense of satisfaction.

So, even a man like you could feel hurt when someone despised you.
I let out a bitter laugh and said, "You must be wondering why your rival suddenly got all those shares. I sold them to him. Those were the shares you gave me in the divorce."
The hope in his eyes shattered bit by bit, and he muttered in disbelief, "That’s impossible. Lexie, you wouldn’t do that to me, right?"
Why not? I could not hate you enough.
You caused my child’s death and wasted my years.
I smiled and said, "I hate you more than anything.
"Now get lost, and don’t you dare die in front of my house."
As I walked inside, I suddenly felt something wet on my face.
Tears were slowly streaming down my cheeks.
But inside, I felt a sense of relief.
The death of my child had always been a painful thorn in my heart.
But now I understood. If he had been born, he would not have been happy. He would have grown up without a father’s love.
Sweetheart, in your next life, may you be born into a happy family, far away from people like us.
At some point, Chris had followed me in. He crouched in front of me, watching as I cried with my face buried in my hands.
Panicking, he pulled a napkin from his pocket and tried to comfort me.
"Lexie, please don’t cry.
"You’ll have your own child one day.
"If only that child’s father could be me."
My response was silence.
At least for now, I was not ready to start a new relationship.
Chris smiled faintly and said nothing more.
……
After that day, an inexplicable awkwardness lingered between us.
But we did not dwell on it. There were more important matters to attend to.
While I was leaking Felix’s scandals to the media, I was secretly selling off small shares to his rival.
Meanwhile, Chris did everything he could to undermine Felix’s company, stealing several major deals from him.
Gradually, Felix’s rival’s stake in the company surpassed Felix’s.
During the shareholders’ meeting, his rival, backed by other shareholders, voted to remove Felix from his CEO position for negligence.
Of course, he still got to enjoy his dividends.
But as long as he had any hope of making a comeback, Chris and I would find a way to take every last cent from him.
