And they always were always chasing what they could not have.
Felix reached out to grab me again, but a hand appeared from behind me, putting a stop to his actions.
"Mr. Gibson, men and women should maintain proper boundaries. Stay away from my girlfriend."

Chris pulled me close in an almost possessive manner, wrapping his arms around me.
Felix looked hurt, his eyes filled with hope as he gazed at me.
In the past, I could not resist that look.
But that was when I loved him. Now, I did not care for him at all.
I did not move, allowing Chris to do as he pleased. I needed him to get rid of Felix.
Chris smiled with a smug, almost taunting expression.

Felix clenched his fists in frustration. Leaving Madison behind, he turned and walked away.
See? A man like that would give you the world when he loved you.
But when he was done, he would not even spare you a glance.
I did not feel sorry for Madison, though. Why pity someone who chose to be the other woman?

I turned back and said, "I guess I owe you one."
Chris raised an eyebrow and replied, "How about I give you a ride home, then?"
Seeing my puzzled look, he explained, "I’m your new neighbor."
Fine, I thought. Might as well make use of a free driver.
……
Busy days flew by peacefully.
In the blink of an eye, more than a month had passed.
One afternoon after work, Madison stopped me at the entrance of the company.
We sat down together in a nearby café.
I ordered a coffee, while Madison asked for a glass of milk.
She looked thin and tired, yet her face was glowing with happiness.
A strange contradiction.
She placed a hand on her stomach and smiled blissfully.
"Lexie, I’m pregnant."
No wonder she was not wearing heels today and only ordered milk.
Her belly was not showing much yet, so she could not be very far along.
I stirred my coffee indifferently and asked, "So what?"
Her expression twisted into something vicious.
"Since you chose to leave for another country, why did you come back to ruin our happiness?
"It’s all your fault! If you hadn’t come back, Felix wouldn’t be so conflicted again."
She was even more naive than I used to be.
Felix was a womanizer by nature.
Even if I weren’t around, he would still find someone else.
After all, how did she end up with him in the first place?
Madison slid a stack of photos across the table to me.
One look was enough to make me almost gag.
They were pictures of Felix entangled with various women.
The disturbing part was that all the women, from certain angles, bore a slight resemblance to me.
It made me sick to my stomach.
He did not cherish what he had, and now he was trying to find a bunch of lookalikes to prove he loved me deeply?
I sneered.
"You should be talking to Felix, not me. And don’t show me this disgusting stuff again."
With that, I stood up to leave.
Behind me, Madison screamed in rage, "Bitch!"
……
I was pulled into a tight embrace, held securely in someone’s arms.
A familiar scent surrounded me.
It was Chris.
He rested his chin on top of my head for a moment, then reluctantly let go.
Looking over his shoulder, I saw white stains all over his expensive black suit.
Madison stood there holding an empty glass.
Felix appeared out of nowhere, rushing over in panic.
"Lexie, are you okay?"
Seeing I wasn’t hurt, he turned around and slapped Madison hard across the face, shouting angrily.
"What the hell are you doing? I told you to stop bothering Lexie!"
