Chapter 29

Elena's POV
"The debt is paid," I said, my voice steady. "The savior and the star... we're done."
I turned my back on the grave and walked down the hill.

With every step, I felt the phantom weight of the last ten years falling away. I wasn't the "Ice Prince's" doctor anymore. I wasn't the secret wife. I was just Elena.
Noah was waiting by the door of the car. When he saw me, he didn't ask how I felt. He simply opened the door, tucked me into the warmth of the leather seat, and kissed my forehead.
"Ready?" he asked.
"Ready," I replied.
We drove away, and for the first time in my life, I didn't look back in the rearview mirror.
Three months later, the Boston Titans were heading into the playoffs. I was back at work, my Chief Medical Officer title now a symbol of the most successful medical department in the league.

My "Sterling Protocol" had been rebranded as the "Vance Method," and it was being licensed by teams across the country. I was no longer a shadow; I was the gold standard.
But my greatest success was growing right under my heart.
I sat in my office at the Titans' facility, looking at a 3D ultrasound of a healthy baby boy.
He had Noah's chin and, if the kicks were any indication, my stubbornness. Noah walked in, carrying two cups of herbal tea and a look of pure adoration.

"The board meeting is over," he announced, leaning over my desk to kiss my cheek. "We're officially moving the team's charity gala to next month. We thought a 'Welcome to the World' theme for our son might be appropriate."
I smiled, pulling him down for a real kiss. "You're going to spoil him before he's even born, aren't you?"
"I'm going to give him the world, Elena," Noah vowed, his eyes dark and serious. "Because his mother gave me a reason to stay in it."
The past was a closed book, its pages stained but finished. Our story was just beginning, and for the first time, the ink was being written in the bright, clear light of the sun.
Six Months Later
The sound of the first cry is something no doctor ever gets used to. It's a primal, triumphant roar, the sound of a soul claiming its place in the world.
"It's a boy, Elena. A beautiful, healthy boy."
I lay back against the pillows, exhausted and drenched in sweat, but filled with a joy so intense it felt like I was glowing from the inside out. Noah was beside me, his face a mess of tears and pride. He had held my hand through every contraction, whispering encouragement, looking at me like I was the most powerful creature on earth.
They placed the baby in my arms. He was warm, heavy, and perfect.
"Leo," Noah whispered, his finger curling around the baby's tiny hand. "Leo Blackwood."
We had chosen the name for its meaning: Lion. A symbol of the strength we had needed to get here.
In that quiet hospital room, surrounded by the scent of new life and the hum of monitors, the final traces of the nightmare faded away. This wasn't a "second best" life.
This wasn't a consolation prize. This was the life I was always meant to have, one built on a foundation of mutual respect and a love that didn't require me to diminish myself to fit.
