As I expected, Lucas, desperate to prove he’d thrive without me,convinced his family to sell their mansion and cars,raising$30 million, which he poured into his lab.
He was researching a chip, potentially earning millions in patents if successful.
But chip research devoured funds.The$30 million vanished without a ripple.

The project stalled.
With no new sponsors, the university evicted him from the lab.
Worst of all,his family, who had been supported by me for so many years, spent money recklessly and had high expectations but low abilities in work.
Since they were fired by my company, they thought the ordinary jobs paid too little and had been lying at home and living off their savings. Now that their savings were gone, they came to ask Lucas for money.
He said the$30 million was gone;they didn’t believe him,suspecting he’d hidden it.
They hounded him,and when he refused, they reported his affair and alleged murder plot to the university.

The scandal led to his suspension.
Lucas, pampered since meeting me,had never suffered so much.
He came to me in a state of despair,”Jenna,my family and Sophie misled me,hurting you.I’ve seen my mistakes.I’ll change.Let’s reconcile.”
I nodded. “Sure. Jump off the building, and I’ll agree to it.”

He flushed:”Tenth floor?That’s deadly.Are you joking?”
I sneered. “Wasn’t it you who was joking with me in the first place?”
After doing so many despicable things, how could he have the nerve to ask me to get back together with him?
He had a strong sense of pride and couldn’t stand being mocked by me like this.
He panted heavily. “If it weren’t for your money, do you think I would marry you? Don’t think too highly of yourself. Even if you want to get back together with me, I won’t be with you!”
“Yo, did I strike a nerve?” I raised my eyebrows.
“Triggered?”I raised a brow.
He fumed:”Bitch!I only love Sophie.When she’s out,we’ll marry.We’ll grow old together,and you’ll regret today!”
He snorted heavily and left. Come to think of it, love is really strange.
When smitten, you filter someone, seeing only good.
Without that filter, admitting I loved someone like Lucas felt shameful!
After the affair scandal,Lucas resumed teaching.
But,unable to fund new experiments,he manipulated a wealthy admirer to steal family money. Her parents alerted the university and media, and he was fired.A teacher with a stain on his record would find it difficult to enter a regular school. Later, he went to a private school.
His family’s chaos worsened his life.
Seven years later,Sophie was released.Lucas joyfully greeted her.
The two of them had an argument on the road. She grabbed the steering wheel, and a car accident occurred. They were pierced by steel bars like a sieve.
Wendy recounted this vividly.
When I mentioned those two people, I didn’t feel anything in my heart.
“Karma always comes around. Let’s not talk about them. Just let me take a look at this bridesmaid dress, okay? Wendy, it’s your wedding tomorrow, not mine. Can you stop obsessing over the bridesmaid dress?”
She disagreed:”No way! It’s my wedding—my best friend has to stun everyone.More face for me!Try this one too—it’s gorgeous!”
Sigh.
I let out a sigh and went back into the fitting room.
