Chapter 20

335words
After opening up to each other, though Lily and I couldn't be called best friends, we became much closer than before.

She had always understood me, and now I was finally beginning to understand her.

The next day, my parents returned.

At first, I was still explaining my whirlwind engagement to Ethan Shaw.

Unexpectedly, they didn't care about any of that at all.

So I kept praising Lily in front of them, even proactively bringing up her background, hoping to pave the way for them.

Unexpectedly, my brother suddenly dragged Ethan Shaw in and loudly introduced him to my mother: "Mom, this is Lily Smith's sworn brother, the third son of the Shaw family—you know, the one who's always making headlines!"

My parents looked at him speechlessly, then turned to Lily Smith who was sitting quietly to the side and gently said:

"Are we... that scary?"

When my parents said this, the four of us couldn't even maintain our forced smiles anymore.

Lily was so nervous that her fingers turned white as she hurriedly explained: "It's not that—we're just nervous about discussing marriage."

My mother suddenly burst into laughter, her eyes crinkling as if she had already seen through all our little schemes:

"Double happiness! Why don't you all have a double wedding?"

Ethan Shaw and I hugged each other excitedly.

Unexpectedly, my brother still shouted: "No way!"

I puzzledly tugged at his sleeve and asked: "Why? What's your problem now?"

My brother scratched his head, looking a bit aggrieved as he said:

"I'm three centimeters shorter than Ethan Shaw, and two sizes thinner. When standing next to him... I completely fade into the background!"

My dad grabbed an apple and chucked it at him:

"You little brat, if you dare delay your sister's wedding, I'll break your damn legs."

My mom smiled sweetly as she delivered the final blow:

"Then you should hit the gym more often, and by the way... they make these things called height insoles—you might want to look into those."
