Chapter 19

337words
I arranged to meet Lily Smith at a restaurant.

She wore the ring my brother had given her, her whole being radiant, her eyes bright.

I got straight to the point: "If my parents absolutely refuse to accept your relationship with my brother, what will you do?"

Lily Smith gently touched her ring, remained silent for a moment, and then smiled slightly:

"Are you here to test me on behalf of your parents?"

She had always been clever, with a resilience and clarity in her eyes that I never possessed.

I met her gaze: "Pass my test, and I guarantee there won't be any obstacles from my parents."

Lily Smith smiled.

She tucked her hair behind her ear, her tone calm yet firm:

"If that's the case, then we won't get married."

I gripped the cup in my hand, completely blindsided by her answer.

Not get married? Was she not serious about my brother, or did she have something else in mind?

"Do you know my brother would be crushed to hear that?"

Yet Lily Smith remained composed: "I'll tell him that when I become strong enough, I'll personally come to propose. If three years isn't enough, then ten years; if ten years isn't enough, then twenty years. As long as his feelings don't change, we can continue on like this."

Her answer completely caught me off guard.

Unlike my brother's impulsive desire to be together at any cost, she offered an answer that was both rational and deeply emotional.

In that moment, I suddenly understood why everyone always said that compared to her, I was like a naive child.

I lowered my head, finally letting go of that stubborn pride I'd clung to for so long.

"I'm sorry... for misunderstanding you all this time."

Lily Smith reached out to hold my hand, gently placing a pink bracelet she had woven herself onto my wrist.

This was my favorite color.
This was my favorite color.

She said softly: "Ethan Shaw is truly lucky to have found you."
