Chapter 11

I watched Ethan Shaw's back as anger bubbled up inside me.

Why does everyone see Lily Smith differently, while treating me like some eternal child?

At this moment, the system gently appeared by my ear, pressing against my forehead as it comforted me:

"Don't be angry. Lily is different from you. She suffered abuse from her foster parents since childhood, often went hungry, and had to dig through trash just to eat."

I was stunned for a moment: "Why didn't you tell me this before?"

"You never asked."

"Then what... does she want now?"

"I don't know. Actually, we've already veered off the original plot."

The system quietly disappeared, and the resentment in my heart faded with it.

Lily had never mentioned her past, and even my brother kept tight-lipped about it.

If I'd grown up in such an environment, I might not have survived at all.

On the way back, I hummed songs the whole time, my mood noticeably lighter.

Instead, it was Ethan Shaw who seemed somewhat hesitant.

As we were approaching the company, he suddenly pulled out my earbuds and said in a low voice: "I think... perhaps we should get engaged."

He turned down the music, and the car suddenly became so quiet I could hear our breathing.

I didn't react immediately, just stared at him blankly.

Seeing no response from me, his tone grew slightly rigid: "If you're not interested, just forget I mentioned it."

As he was about to open the door to get out, I grabbed his arm:

"I'm in."

He looked visibly stunned, his eyes filled with complex emotions:

"We've only known each other for a few days. Are you really sure, or is it because you dislike her? Or just to get that wish?"

"I'm not telling you."

I smiled mischievously, took off one of my rings, and gently slipped it onto his finger.

Then I took out my phone, snapped a picture of our hands together, captioned it "We're engaged!" and instantly posted it across all my social media.

It has nothing to do with Lily Smith, nor with wishes.

I simply made him fall for me when he willingly came my way.
