Chapter 7

At this moment, the Feng family's private chef was busy in the kitchen.

The four of us each sat at a corner of the dining table, eyeing each other in tense silence.

"How did you end up with him? Why didn't you run this by me first?" My brother kept a stern face, occasionally glancing down at his phone while speaking.

His assistant had just sent over Ethan Shaw's information.

I picked up a piece of grilled pork neck and placed it on Ethan Shaw's plate, saying cheerfully:

"He's handsome and gentlemanly, exactly my type~"

After saying this, Ethan Shaw and I exchanged a knowing glance, simultaneously moving our chairs closer together.

He picked up his chopsticks and was about to take the meat I had offered when Lily suddenly stood up and interrupted:

"Don't eat that—you'll have an allergic reaction."

I was prepared for this. I quickly grabbed the chopsticks and personally brought the meat to his lips, smiling sweetly at Lily as I said:

"Don't worry, I already told Chef Woods. This is specially made imitation meat using chicken and mushrooms."

She visibly relaxed, but my heart started racing.

She cared about Ethan Shaw—cared deeply.

Ethan couldn't possibly miss this reaction, and that was exactly what he wanted.

My brother suddenly put down his chopsticks with a clatter and turned to ask stiffly:

"How did you know about his allergies?"

Lily clutched the tablecloth tightly, her cheeks instantly flushing.

Ethan, sitting beside me, made a motion to stand up, but I firmly held him in his seat.

I quickly smoothed things over: "Brother, Lily must have heard me mentioning the allergy to Chef Woods earlier, but didn't know he'd changed the recipe."

I looked directly at Lily. She suddenly smiled faintly, sat back in her chair, and said softly to my brother:

"Yes, Pearl is right."

Only then did my brother breathe a sigh of relief and take Lily's hand:

"With your sharp eye for detail, you'll do great starting at the company tomorrow."

I lowered my head and smiled coldly.

That position, originally meant for me, ultimately went to Lily Smith.

While lost in thought, Ethan suddenly handed me a glass of wine. He drained his glass first, then announced to everyone at the table:

"As it happens, Pearl will also be joining my company tomorrow."

I looked at him in shock; this wasn't part of our pre-arranged script at all.

"Wh...what?" I leaned close to his ear and urgently whispered, "Do you even know what my major was?"

My brother immediately questioned:

"What could she possibly do at your company? Her major..."

"Cultural heritage preservation, isn't it?" Ethan Shaw smoothly interjected. "I'm planning to establish several private museums."

I widened my eyes—he'd been checking up on me in secret?

Back then, my whole family opposed my choice of major.

My brother outwardly said a few words in my defense, but inwardly he thought the same as our parents: useless.

"She has excellent grades, and her talent won't be wasted with me." Ethan Shaw's voice was steady and clear. "I'll do everything in my power to help her shine, and I won't force her into anything she doesn't want."

His words, each and every one, sank deep into my heart.

As expected of the man I've set my sights on—he knows exactly what to say.

In my excitement, I downed three glasses of red wine in quick succession.

No matter how others tried to stop me, I brushed them off and kept drinking.

Gradually, the room began to spin and my vision blurred, with only a handsome face swaying before my eyes.

I pointed at him unsteadily and asked: "Are you... Ethan Shaw?"

I couldn't hear his response clearly, so I leaned in closer and sniffed, recognizing that familiar cologne.

So I cupped his face gleefully and flashed a mischievous smile:

"Things done when drunk... don't really count, right?"

After saying that, I stood on my tiptoes and planted a kiss right on his cool lips.
