I was standing at the edge of the tall stone walls and I suddenly felt my breath catch in my throat. I looked down at the huge army of wolves that had gathered below me.
Their fur was shining and sparkling, catching what little light was left in the sky as the sun started to set. The wolves were making deep low growling sounds that combined into a sound like a heavy dark hum that I could feel deep inside of me.
I realized that Augustus had finally come, and I could sense that a big battle was about to take place. It appeared as if a dark cloud was hovering over us ready to unleash terror at any point.
'Just take a look at them," I said quietly in a whisper, as my heart beat loudly in my chest. I turned to Adams, who was standing right next to me.
He appeared completely unfazed by what was happening. I noticed that his striking blue eyes were fixed intensely on the dark wave of people stretching out across the field and I couldn't help but admire how calm and collected he seemed .
'They have no possibility of winning against us," he said in response, in assurance.
I really wanted to be as confident as he was, but my mind had doubts that were eating me away from the inside much like a hungry predator stalking its prey.
As I looked over the line of wolves, a feeling of dread settled in my stomach when I noticed two figures that I recognized.
Augustus, who had a dark and unmistakable presence around him, stood confidently at the front and right next to him was my brother-in-law, Ben.
'Are you really certain that you want to go ahead with this?" I asked, as I looked up at Adams with worry in my eyes. 'What if they are fully prepared for what's coming? What if—"
'Lilith," he said, interrupting me softly. His hand reached out and gently squeezed my shoulder, offering comfort.
'We have been planning hard for this for a long time. You need to stir up your faith in our pack and believe in all of us. We are here for you."
I nodded my head in agreement even though there was a storm of thoughts inside me.
As Adams looked back towards the army that was coming closer, a powerful-looking Beta wolf at the front of Augustus's group raised its head high.
It let out a loud roar that echoed through the air, which was soon followed by a group of snarls and howls from the other wolves around it.
'Here we go," he quietly said to himself with a small spark of excitement lighting up his eyes.
The atmosphere was filled with a crackling electric energy as the group of outcasts charged ahead, moving together like a powerful and threatening storm.
My heart began to sound loudly in my chest as adrenaline surged through my body and I realized that the long-awaited war was finally here.
The strong and commanding voice of Ronan echoed in the air as he called out to the archers, 'Attention archers! Get ready!"
I observed closely as our skilled fighters quickly sprang into action. They moved with impressive agility, skillfully drawing their weapons and carefully lining up their arrows. Their faces showed a strong determination.
Adams then turned around to face me, his expression very intense and focused. 'These arrows are specially dipped in wolfsbane," he told me, 'and they are designed to weaken our enemies before they can reach our gates."
As he spoke there was a passionate fire in his words that emphasized the importance of what he was saying.
'Will this be enough?" I asked.
'They are going to fail, and we are going to succeed. Just wait and see," he said to me, trying to give me some comfort. His confidence was like a small flickering flame that was shining in a growing darkness.
As the rogue wolves surrounded us and advanced closer, Ronan raised his voice so that it could be heard clearly.
He shouted firmly, 'Shoot your weapons whenever you feel ready!"
The arrows flew high and fast, hitting their intended targets with an accuracy that seemed almost supernatural, as if they were guided by the hands of the gods.
A sudden wave of hope rose inside me, but it was only temporary. For every one of the rogues that we managed to take down, two more would come forward, marching toward us with relentless determination.
Their numbers seem endless, like a powerful and unrelenting tide that threatens to overwhelm and swallow us whole.
'Adams they are—" I started to say, but suddenly the noise of chaos swirling up interrupted me. Just then, a loud and heartbreaking scream of pain rang out, making me stop in the middle of my sentence.
'Keep your attention on what you need to do!" he yelled in response, making an effort to see through the mass of people around us.
Our connection in our minds brought a sense of urgency to our conversation. 'We must act now. Open the gates!"
At that very moment, the big heavy wooden doors slowly opened with a loud creaking sound that felt quite eerie. At the same time, Raoul and Bartholomew burst into action, transforming into their powerful wolf forms.
They were at the rear guiding a group of fighters into the wild scene that was unfolding before us. I found myself holding my breath again as I observed my fellow pack members bravely jumping into this fierce battle.
'Stay close to me," Adams said, with his eyes locked on the battle. I could not help but feel a strong sense of determination growing inside me.
This was not just any fight, it was a fight for our home. I was ready to do anything that was necessary to keep it safe and defend it from harm, and I am certain we will overcome it, with the help of the moon goddess…
