Chapter 3

At the celebration banquet, drinks flowed freely as I clung to Ethan's arm, smoothly playing my role as the loving wife.

Suddenly, a commotion erupted at the entrance of the banquet hall.

I looked up, immediately understanding what was happening, though my expression remained perfectly composed.

Jade had arrived.

She wore a tight-fitting formal dress that deliberately emphasized her pregnant belly, a wounded expression plastered on her face.

When Ethan spotted her, his body instantly tensed, and he instinctively moved to approach her.

I applied slight pressure with my hand and whispered in his ear,

"Would you prefer the Grant family to make tomorrow's headlines in the financial section or the gossip columns?"

Ethan paused, though he couldn't hide the hesitation in his eyes.

By now Jade had spotted us, her eyes instantly welling with tears. "Ethan..."

Ethan's resolve crumbled instantly. He broke free from my grip and rushed to her side.

"Jade, why are you here? Didn't I tell you to rest at home?"

Jade grabbed his sleeve, tears streaming down her cheeks like a waterfall.

"Ethan, I was so scared all alone. And the baby..." she placed a hand on her belly, "the baby missed daddy too."

I had to intervene. I stepped forward. "Miss Sheridan, this is hardly the place for you."

Jade shrank behind Ethan, her sobs growing louder.

Ethan immediately shielded her with his body, shooting me an angry glare.

"Iris! Jade is pregnant and not feeling well. Can't you show a little compassion?"

I let out a cold laugh. "You brought your mistress to disrupt our corporate event, embarrassing the entire Grant family, and you want me to be compassionate?"

I signaled to the security guards nearby, and two of them immediately stepped forward.

But Ethan stood protectively in front of Jade, his tone unyielding. "I'd like to see who dares lay a finger on her!"

The situation instantly became tense.

I walked up to Ethan, my voice stern. "Ethan, do you want the Grant name to become the laughingstock of the entire business world?"

Ethan's face turned ashen with anger, but he still pulled out his phone and called his assistant.

As the assistant escorted Jade away, she continued crying out, "Ethan! You can't abandon me and our baby!"

Ethan clenched his fists, his knuckles turning white, tears actually glistening in his eyes.

After the celebration banquet ended, the atmosphere in the car was tense—like arrows drawn against bows.

Ethan leaned back in his seat, eyes closed, his tone ice-cold. "Iris, what you did today was truly excessive."

I watched the neon lights blur past the window, my voice flat.

"Excessive? You let your mistress crash our corporate event, making all our business partners whisper behind our backs. Who's really being excessive here?"

He opened his eyes and turned to glare at me.

"Jade just loves me too much! She's carrying my child, so it's normal for her emotions to be unstable! Damn it, you're a woman too—can't you show a little sympathy?"

I met his furious gaze and said, each word like ice,

"Ethan, you can play with fire, but don't burn down your own house. If you can't control your women, I don't mind stepping in. But trust me—you won't like the consequences."

Ethan clenched his fists, veins bulging on the back of his hands, clearly furious.

But in the end, he just turned away and snorted coldly. "Forget it. I won't stoop to your level."
