Chapter 45
1336words
Ever since Matt told me about his bucket list being all about me, I just brushed it off and tried to get rid of him, but he wouldn't stop following me around or pushing me to be friends with him. I honestly don't know what the guy's problem is, there's thousands of girls here throwing themselves at his feet but he just won't stop bothering me.
The last thing I want is him getting into trouble with Brandon, if he finds out there's a guy onto me, things won't go well.
I place my books on my lap as I sit in a chair in the hall. Suddenly, the feeling of being watched starts to crawl on my skin, I search my surroundings and there's no one looking at me, i frown.
That's weird.
The entire time, I keep feeling a weight on me but I try my best to ignore it.
Once the lecture stops, I get up and make my way to the entrance then accidentally bump into someone.
"Oh crap."
I crouch and start to pick up my books when I catch someone mirroring my position and helping me out.
"Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry."
"It's okay," I say.
A girl with long wavy black hair smiles at me.
I stand and she hands me one last book.
"Thanks."
"It's my first day here, I'm so nervous it's triggering the clumsiness in me."
I smile back with a nod.
"First days are always that way I guess."
She continues smiling at me, then sweeps her gaze on every part of my face, studying me closely and silently until it starts to get awkward. I place the papers in order and tip my head at the doors direction.
"I should go."
She nods with her smile still in place. I keep walking but I can still feel the weight of her stare on my back, I shrug the weird feeling off and continue on my way.
I suck in a deep breath once I burst out of the building doors, my peace is short lived when I spot Matt, who seems to be buried in a deep conversation with a few guys, when he sees me, he slaps a book on ones chest and starts head towards me.
"Hey."
I sigh.
"What now?"
"No hey back? That's a bit too much even if you don't like me,given the fact that I did nothing wrong to you."
I roll my eyes.
Ever since that day he complimented me about my eyes, that was three days ago, on a Friday, I've been noticing a pattern that makes me uncomfortable. So, gone are the one word answers because now, I'm giving him the ultimate silent treatment as though he is totally invisible. He's usually sticking around Sam and Naomi, which I totally don't like because it means he'll be sticking around where i am.
"Let's get to the point," I come to a halt and turn towards him.
He smiles and it only irritates me further.
"What do you really want from me, Matt?"
"I told you, I want us to be friends."
I scoff.
"They're a lot of girls you brush off who want to be your friends, try again."
He removes his hands from the pockets of his jeans and steps closer, his smile dropping in the process.
"You want the truth? Okay, here it is."
I step back but there's not enough space to escape him. He looks down at me and it's the first time I've seen him this serious.
He places both hands on each side of my head and leans down closer, I shrink back and frown.
"I like you Kimberly, I like you so much that that ring on your finger means shit to me."
My mouth hangs open, it's taking my brain too long to process what's happening and what he just said.
"Not to sound like a creep or anything, but I've been watching you during class since the first day you got here, there's just something about you that entices me, I'm not going to shy away from my attraction to you."
I rapidly blink twice.
"Look, Matt, I know you said you don't care about the ring on my finger, but i do. I'm engaged and I love my fiancé. I would never look at another man as I do him."
He watches me silently, I sneak out from beneath his arm and let out a deep breath.
"I'm sorry, but you and I can't be friends."
Then I walk away and I'm glad that this time around, he doesn't follow me.
* *The Dorm* *
"Just like that? He confessed all that to you?" Sam asks with a gaping mouth.
"Yep."
"I can't believe he didn't care about you being engaged."
"Well if some people I know didn't entertain him too much, maybe he would have gotten the hint to back off the first time."
"Come on Kim, we were just being nice," Sam argues.
"And then you compared his situation with Brandon's."
"That was a joke."
I side eye her and she sighs.
"I would never suggest such a thing as leaving Brandon for another guy or cheating on him."
"Who's cheating on who?"
I startle when Jonathan walks into the room.
"What are you doing here? You're not supposed to be in the female dorms."
"But I am," he smirks and wiggles one brow.
"Seriously Jonathan, what do you want?" Naomi asks.
"Chill,I'm here for Kimberly."
I eye him curiously.
"Me?" Jonathan never goes to the extent of breaking rules by coming to the dorms just to search me out.
"You're good at organising barbecues right?"
"Uh, yeah, why?"
"I need you to organise one for tomorrow, sorry for the short notice but it has to happen."
"Why?"
He hesitates.
"Oh come on, just spill already,' Sam rolls her eyes.
"Fine. There's this girl I like, she's been ignoring me and tomorrow happens to be her birthday,so I want to do it for her."
Sam bursts out laughing.
"You like a girl? As in like her enough to throw a birthday thing for her?" She asks.
"Hey! Don't make fun of him, he's finally falling in love," Nao scolds.
"Whoa whoa, wait a minute ladies. Love is a pretty strong word, lets not jump to that yet. We're no Kim and Bran."
I roll my eyes and smile at him.
"Speaking of Bran," I grab an apple and take a bite. "Where is he?"
"Uhh, I think you're asking the wrong person, the guy disappears a lot lately."
"What do you mean?"
"He doesn't spend much time with us as he used to, he's always gone at night," I frown. He snatched the apple from my hand and take a huge bite then leans against the wall, crossing his legs at the ankles. "He's giving creepy vibes..." He trails off and narrows his eyes at the wall.
Suddenly, his attitude changes as if he realised he's just made a mistake.
"Anyway, he'll come around," he smiles.
I've also noticed that Brandon has been acting weird lately, I don't know why but I have a bad feeling about this. I've been staying with the girls for four days now and Bran is always with the guys, he's spending football game nights with them, or that's what I thought, because apparently, he's been lying.
"Kim, are you okay?" Nao asks.
"Yeah,yeah I'm okay."
I find Sam watching me, then she clears her throat and gets up.
"I'll get us some snacks, Jonathan, come with me."
"But she hasn't yet given me an answer."
"Yes, the answer is yes, she'll do it and we'll help her, now come with me."
She drags him out of the room.
I feel like something is going on and I'm the only one who doesn't know about it.
I look at Nao and she seems uncomfortable.
What are they all hiding from me? I have to find out, I need to.
