Chapter 7

I will never forget the pain of that day—of the abortion. The way the child came out, blood-soaked and shattered, was too much to bear, and I couldn't even bring myself to look at it.
Trevor seemed to remember the past, his face twisted with pain. "Mia, don't," he said, his voice hoarse, "It was my fault. Believe me, I'll never—never do it again."
"Mia, we'll have children again in the future. Just believe in me, okay?"
"Look at me, please," he said.
My eyes lowered as the tears fell, and this time, they weren't just for show.
The painful memories rushed back and pierced my heart anew.
His voice, though still soft, carried the weight of anger now, as he struggled to control it. "Mia, did Cassidy tell you this?"
"So what if she did? What if she didn't?" I retorted.
"Mia, don't worry. I'll make things right."
It was laughable, really. When a man cheats, he always blames the woman, never once reflecting on his own failings.
But I wanted to see how he would handle Cassidy, so I looked down and choked out, "Honey, you'd better keep your word. If you cheat one more time, I'll never see you again."
The moment I said it, Trevor was quick to kiss me, his expression soft, his gaze fixed and tender as though I were something priceless.
I watched him with cold eyes as he closed his own.
Trevor, you're quite the deceiver.
He took me to the hospital's resting room, but before I could say anything, he left. I followed him in secret, and soon, I saw him enter Cassidy's room.
Suddenly, Cassidy's voice rang out, full of surprise. "Trevor, you finally came to see me!"
But what greeted her was a slap—a sharp, unforgiving strike from Trevor.
His voice, colder than ice, echoed through the room. "Cassidy, where do you get the nerve to provoke Mia?"
Cassidy's expression flickered, first to shock, then to pain, all in the span of a few seconds.
"Trevor, you hit me? You've never hit me before…"
Trevor's response was frigid. "You've crossed the line, Cassidy. It's over. Get out."
She tried to rise from the bed, but when she saw me standing in the doorway, eyes full of anticipation at the drama, she screamed, "Trevor, have you been enchanted by this woman? Mia, you filthy bitch!"
And just like that, Cassidy lost control. She scrambled out of bed, charging at me with all her might, slapping me across the face.
Trevor hadn't expected me to follow. As soon as he saw the swollen bruise on my face, he kicked her away and immediately wrapped me in his arms, shielding me.
Cassidy, already weak from her injuries, spat blood as she staggered, her gaze filled with venom. She glared at us with eyes burning with hatred.
"You did this on purpose, Mia!" she shouted. "Trevor, don't believe her…"
Trevor didn't spare her another glance. Without hesitation, he swept me up in his arms, cradling me protectively, and walked away.
He said, his voice filled with finality, "From now on, Cassidy's treatment is canceled. Throw her out. As for the medical bills, make sure she pays them—every last cent."
The hospital director, bowing and scraping, hastily called a few security guards, who forcibly dragged Cassidy out to the entrance.
She didn't have any money on her, so they searched her body. One guard, lecherous as he was, took advantage of the situation, grabbing at her chest as he searched. He even went as far as to stick his hand under her clothes.
"Did you hide the money there? Let me see!"
Cassidy fought back with what little strength she had, but the guards only continued their rough handling, eventually ripping off the bracelet Trevor had bought for her.
"Damn it! If I weren't afraid of getting into trouble, I'd beat you to a pulp!" one of the guards sneered. "This bracelet's worth something. We'll use it to cover your medical expenses!"
"No, no, please don't take it! Please, don't!" Cassidy begged, too weak to resist, collapsing on the ground at the entrance, crying bitterly.
Inside, Trevor was tending to my face, applying some medicine to soothe the swelling before stepping out. I sat in the car, watching the whole scene with a cold gaze.
Cassidy, does it hurt?
This is your well-deserved retribution.
Fearing that I might be upset seeing her in such a state, Trevor quickly drove away, taking me with him.
Now that the truth was out, he deleted Cassidy's contact, cutting all ties with her and returned to his family. His days were now a monotonous cycle—home to work, work to home—and every night, he would keep me close, our bodies entwined.
