Felix, in disbelief, gripped my shoulders tightly.
"Lexie, don’t say things like that. We’re not getting divorced.
"I was just too impulsive earlier. Does it hurt? Let me take you to the hospital."
I pushed his hands away and continued, "Tomorrow, my lawyer will contact you about the division of assets, and then we’ll meet at the courthouse."
Seeing that I wasn’t backing down, his tone turned harsh.
"Lexie Lincoln, don’t regret this!"
See? The moment his interests were threatened, he showed his true colors.
There was no doubt. I was going through with this divorce.
A month later, we were officially divorced, and I took half of Felix’s assets with me.
He texted me, still unwilling to let go.
"Lexie, how have you been lately? I miss you so much. There will always be a place for you by my side."
I read the message as I landed in Micano.
Forget about being anyone’s second choice. I was determined to stand out on my own.
……
The plane descended through the thick clouds, and the skyscrapers below came into view.
After three years, I was finally back on this land.
As I waited for my luggage, a hand quickly grabbed it before I could.
The man moved swiftly, his white shirt stretching across his muscular frame as he bent over.
He handed me a mask with a smile.
"If you don’t want people to know you’re back right away, put this on."
I thanked him and put on the mask. My voice came out muffled from behind it.
"Chris, you really didn’t have to come back with me."
I had met Chris Xander in Micano. His family owned the famous jewelry company MAG, and he was there scouting for talent.
We had a chance encounter in a café where I accidentally left behind my design drafts, and he picked them up.
After that, he kept coming to me for advice on jewelry appreciation.
I knew the look in his eyes was not just admiration for my work. But I also knew I could use his connections.
Over those three years in Micano, I honed my professional skills, gained more hands-on experience, and built an even stronger international reputation.
That was why I decided to return to Chicco.
What I did not expect was that Chris would follow me back.
After resting briefly in my new apartment, I headed to MAG’s Chicco branch.
The main reason I came back was to assist in selecting junior designers for the company.
As soon as I walked into the office, I saw Chris again.
He tried to play it cool, saying, "Can’t I check in on my own company?"
I walked right past him and into the meeting room.
Scanning the room, I spotted an old acquaintance I did not expect to see.
……
Madison’s pupils dilated when she saw me, and she instinctively hid the item in her hand behind her back.
I smirked.
It was true when they said that you could not escape your nemesis.
I took the center seat among the interviewers and watched as each candidate handed in their résumé.
Madison was at the back of the line, dragging her feet as she reluctantly handed over her portfolio.
When I looked through it, I was stunned. It was my design drafts from three years ago.
No wonder she was so nervous. She actually dared to bring my designs to this interview.
Well, I was more than willing to play along.
One by one, the candidates introduced themselves and explained their design concepts.
When it was Madison’s turn, she stood up, stuttering through her explanation.
As the other interviewers frowned, I interrupted her.
"Miss Hill, this bracelet gives off a sense of restraint and struggle. It’s nowhere near as cheerful and free-spirited as you’re describing."
