Chapter 4

Irving's voice made Natalia's hand shift by an inch, and I failed to die once again.
When I woke up in the hospital, all the light had drained from my eyes. Was there really nothing that I could do besides wait to be erased, as if I had never existed?
In my original world, I had so many family members and friends. I wanted so much to see them one last time.

I quietly climbed up to the hospital rooftop. But when I looked down at the crowds of people bustling about below, I stepped back.
Just as I turned and planned to find a better spot to jump, I was surprised to find someone standing behind me.
"Go on. Jump. Why aren't you jumping? Are you scared, or did you never plan to jump at all?"
Kimberly Lyon's eyes were filled with undisguised mockery. She was my third target of affection. Once upon a time, she had been my pursuer.
Her family was well-off, but she had parents who valued sons over daughters. They were determined to marry her off in exchange for greater benefits for her younger brother. When she was forced to marry a middle-aged man and tried to jump off a building in despair, I was the one who saved her.
From that day onward, she followed me everywhere I went like she was my shadow. Under her relentless pursuit, the defenses in my heart gradually crumbled.

To help her escape from the marriage her parents arranged, I traded my research that was worth hundreds of millions of dollars for her right to freely choose who she loved.
But on that very night, she accidentally hit Irving with her car on her way to meet me. While she was taking care of him, she gradually had a change of heart. She never once mentioned wanting to be with me again.
And so, I failed my mission yet again. I thought that would be the end of it. But I never expected that Irving, who had been caught sleeping with another woman by Kimberly, would pin all the blame on me instead.
Afterward, he disappeared without a trace, while I was forced to bear the full brunt of Kimberly's wrath. Over the years, she tried to harm me at every turn. She even tried to send men and women who had STDs into my bed several times.

I tried to step past her and leave. However, she grabbed my arm and dragged me to the edge of the rooftop. Half of my body hung in midair. She pressed me down tightly, not allowing me to get up.
Her eyes burned with crazed hatred as she said, seething, "Someone like you should've died long ago! If it weren't for you, how would Irvy have been disgraced? If that never happened, he and I would never be forced to separate!"
At that moment, Mavis and the others rushed onto the rooftop.
Upon seeing what Kimberly was doing, Mavis and Shiloh looked a little concerned.
Noticing that they seemed about to speak up for me, Irving immediately stepped forward.
He said, "Kimberly, what happened back then is already in the past. I don't blame Lucian. Everything he's done lately was just to get your attention. I can understand that.
"Lucian, I don't know what I did to offend you so deeply that you hate me this much, and why you feel the need to compete with me for everything. But today, I'm apologizing to you. I hope you won't keep causing trouble anymore. I don't want to see them so exhausted because of you."
After Irving said all that, he bowed deeply to me.
When I stood still because I was too stunned to react, he surreptitiously grabbed my hand and deliberately leaned his body outward over the edge of the rooftop.
"Irvy!" Four voices cried out at the same time.
In her panic, Kimberly shoved me away with all her strength.
The moment I was pushed past the railing, I closed my eyes calmly.
So I could finally leave, huh? I just hoped I wouldn't land on anyone innocent.
The four of them grabbed Irving. I, however, fell from the rooftop.
The sensation of weightlessness rushed over me. Unfortunately, I didn't die.
By the time Kimberly and the others came down from the rooftop, several firefighters were helping me get down from the rescue air cushion.
