Their glances were sleazy,suggestive.
The kiss ended.
Lila's eyes sparkled,lips red,shyly covering her face."Jake,you really went all in.Really kissed me that long."
"You could've just faked it.Now my lips are wrecked—how'll I explain to people tomorrow?"
Jake,visibly excited,eyes still hungry,looked satisfied.
But glancing at me,he added a cautious,placating tone to what he said."Chloe,you're not mad,right?"
"I only did it to help her out,and you said it’s okay."
"Don't turn this on me."
"Why would I?"
I found it dull,made a random excuse,and got up to leave.
Jake,nervous,went after me,reaching for my bag."I'm coming too.Done playing.It's late—let me drive you home."
I didn't wait for him,just strode out.
He kept up,grinning apologetically."Chloe,are you mad?If you are,just say so,okay?"
"Don't go silent on me—it freaks me out.I’m scared"
I rolled my eyes,ignoring him.
Scared?He didn't seem scared when he was kissing her passionately.
I was about to dump him when Lila followed,heels clicking,casually opening Jake's passenger door."Jake,give me a ride.I'm heading home too."
"Hey,girl,you don't mind if I sit in the passenger seat,right?I'll play some music for us."
She smugly waved her phone.
"Bluetooth connected."
Jake panicked,looking at me."Chloe,listen,I only gave Lila a ride once.She complained my playlist sucked,so she connected her Bluetooth.Don't get the wrong idea."
Lila scoffed,laughing."Jake,didn't think you’re the type of guy afraid of their girl.Not even married,and you're already groveling.Is it that serious?Is your girl really that petty to care about this?"
"How about I delete the navigation voice pack I recordedr for you?Save your girl from getting jealous and you from explaining."
It clicked.
That's why Jake never used navigation when I was in the car or insisted on using my phone’s.This was why.
I nearly laughed from rage.
I'd planned a clean breakup.
But now,after this hell of a night,being fed up with her act without striking back felt suffocating.
So I yanked Lila,half of her body already in the car,out.Grinning widely,I said,"Sorry,I do mind!"
"I’m the only one who can sit here,got it?"
"I've got stickers claiming my spot ready.I'll slap them on in a couple days."
"Stay away from my man and his car,or I'll slap you silly,like this!"
My words landed with a hard slap across her face.
Her cheek reddened.
Her misty eyes brimmed with helpless pity."It's just a passenger seat.Drling,do you have to be so intolerant?"
"I get carsick!"
"Carsick?Walk then!Begging for a ride and complaining—who gave you the nerve?Get lost!"
Lila looked to Jake for help.
But he averted his gaze."Lila,it's inconvenient for me to drive you.Ask the others if anyone's going your way."
"You!"Lila's eyes widened,furious, but there was nothing she could do.
Her glare burned with clear hatred.
She spat,"Fine,Jake,you'll regret this!"
Her heels clacked loudly,her slim waist swaying seductively.
Jake's eyes lingered on her,he swallowed unconsciously.
But reason got the best of him.
He opened the car door for me,cautiously saying,"I'll delete her navigation voice pack,okay?"
"Don't be mad.She insisted on recording it—everyone's got one.I couldn't be the odd one out,right?"
"I know I messed up,no boundaries.Punish me however you want!"
