Sinking underwater, holding my breath,I heard her hysterics.
"Once you're dead,I'll get the insurance money!"
"Don't blame me,Sis.Blame your own uselessness!"
So that's it.
For money, she'd kill her only family.
Maybe I was never family to her—just a good mine with her same blood.
Through the water,I saw her twisted face.
The last bit of sisterhood I had inside me for her was gone.
While she turned the boat around to shore,"calling for help,"I swam silently to the other side.
She'd never guess I could swim and dive, skills a kind coach taught me for free at a pool job.
On shore, her theatrical sobs drew a crowd.
"My sister and I went sailing together, but she tripped and fell into the sea!"
"Please,save her!"
As they prepared to call for help,I pushed through the crowd.
"No need.I'm here."
Her face paled at once, staring like I was a ghost.
When I stood before her,she stammered,
"Sis...how...?"
An old lady shouted,"Your sister said you fell into the see.How come you’re here?"
I glanced at her terrified face."Lucky I guess.A kind stranger saved me."
Staring at her,her eyes avoided mine.
"Sis...you're okay,thank God!"
The crowd dispersed, seeing that everything was fine.
I wrung out my soaked clothes, looking at her.
"You said I tripped, but I felt someone push me..."
Before I finished,she blurted out,
"I misspoke!I was stretching and accidentally bumped you!"
I lowered my head and smiles."It's fine. It's over."
She relaxed,cursing inwardly:
"She didn't die?No money then?"
"This woman's a survivor!Why can’t she just die"
I took deep breaths,calming myself.
If she wanted money so badly,I'd help her get it.
Days later,I"accidentally"sent her a photo of a man in our chat, quickly deleting it.
She was fast though.
"Sis,who's this guy?He's kinda hot!"
I ignored her.
At home,she asked me again.
I frowned,hesitating."My boss."
As she pressed,I cleared the table and retreated to study.
"She's acting shady."
"Sneaky. Is she climbing the ladder and hiding it?"
Hearing her thoughts,I smirked.
A handsome,wealthy man—she'd bite.
Sure enough, she offered to drive me to work the next day.
But she trailed me from a distance, insisting that I shouldn’tt mention our relation.
"Having a broke,working-class sister is embarrassing!"
After days of this, she got lucky.
We both saw the boss approaching.
I nodded to him as usual.
He didn't look my way.
Soon after he passed me,a yelp came.
"Ouch!"
