Chapter 91

'Mate–" Ted whispered, staring into her eyes.
She trembled on the spot, her fingers still on my face. Every part of my body remained normal with no dark fur or hair shooting out of it.
He only took over my senses and everything connected to it, from my eyes, voice and muscles.
'Adams," she called me, but Ted laughed.
'I am not Adams, I am Ted, his wolf. And you are my mate."
She detached immediately, and fell back into the bathtub, staring at Ted like he was some mysterious wonder.
'What did you do to Adams?" She asked, her voice trembling like the strings of a guitar.
'Adams? I didn't do anything to him. He is safe, inside."
Ted wasn't one to speak much, but she had succeeded in making him talk longer than he always did.
She seemed to relax a bit, knowing I was safe. The bubbles in the bathtub covered her from her neck down, making only her face visible.
Ted was still very close to her due to the kiss. So she put her hands out gently on his chest and tried to push him back.
I shook my head, knowing she was wasting her time. Ted was too strong for her and wouldn't move.
He had a mind of his own and did only what he wanted to do.
Surprisingly, he moved backwards in reaction to her push and sat down on the edge of the bathtub some distance away.
Did he have a soft spot for her too?
'You never listen to me, but you listen to a woman, how generous," I scolded him.
He didn't reply, which got me almost furious.
'I need Adams, please let him out," she pleaded, staring directly into his eyes.
'Why?" He asked, hurt. 'Don't you want me?"
'After what you did to me this morning? I don't think so." She looked away, avoiding his gaze.
The atmosphere became tense between them as joy seeped through my body and I taunted him with it. 'Let me out now Ted, my wife wants me."
'You mean our mate? He replied inwardly.
'Whatever, let me out! Now!"
He ignored me, just like before, and concentrated on Lilith. 'You can't run for long Lilith, I'll be back for you."
No sooner had he said those words, I gained control of myself.
Lilith stared at me with a displeased look. She rolled her eyes and looked away, burying herself deeper in the bubble bath.
I wanted to say something, anything to her. But I couldn't bring myself to. So I looked away and moved closer to pick her up in my arms, but she stopped me and stood up.
'I'm fine now," she whispered. 'You should leave." Her eyes were everywhere, except on my face and goosebumps filled her skin like the morning dew on a flower.
I looked at her for a while, amused by the way she moved her eyes. I had just seen her naked some minutes ago, yet she still behaved like a child, scared to bathe outside at night.
I stood up and walked towards the door. 'I'll be waiting at the dining table, get dressed and meet me there."
The next second, I was out of the bathroom. I left the room without stopping and headed straight to the dining room.
Already there was Ronan, seated behind the table, close to where I always sat. None of my brothers showed up, they were probably still annoyed because of what Shane told us the night before.
As for Shane, he left for Beikjoy Pack, a brother pack of ours, in the north, in the morning– to start a new life there.
Alpha Raja, the Alpha of the pack, was a distant relation of ours, or so we were told by my father before he died. I never saw him or knew him personally.
Rumors we'd heard about him were that he was a wealthy, ruthless Alpha who ruled the north with an iron hand.
When he heard about my father's death, it was said that he mourned for seven days and nights, without food or water.
He sent horses, loaded with gold and silver, to my pack, so much so– there was no space to keep them.
Immediately he heard Shane was coming, he sent armed soldiers and maids with a fancy chariot house to bring him in as a special guest.
I moved to my seat and leaned in closer to him. 'Did you dispose of the bodies?" I whispered in low tones.
'Yes I did," he replied with a cold voice.
I rested back and closed my eyes, remembering what had happened in the dark room.
Aria screamed and stood up in haste, running towards the door. She banged it so hard, the frame of the door shook.
'Your majesty, my king, I'm sorry… please… don't kill me also."
Ted was back and this time, he was angry. 'You should stop screaming, maid, if you don't want to end up like her!" he growled in a loud voice which made her tremble under his gaze.
'J… just spa… spare my l… life, p…p… please," she replied, stammering hard, every part of her body trembling like a building with a weak foundation.
'What have you done?" I scolded him.
He stared at the shaking maid before him, at the dead one on the ground and shook his head. 'I wish I could do that, but you would talk."
He charged towards her, his claws elongated. Getting towards her, his eyes focused on the hole in the middle of her throat, and he moved his claws back to dig in when… Lilith called, jolting me out of my thoughts.
'Adams!"
I opened my eyes and saw her at the door, staring at me with a worried look in between her eyes.
Ronan also looked at her, flustered.
'Lilith, I… I didn't know you were there, come in. Let's eat."
She walked inside and sat down at the opposite end of the table, which was unlike her. She always sat beside me. What suddenly changed? Was it because of what transpired between us in the room?
The maids had been waiting all along, at the entrance, waiting for a command to bring in the food.
I waved my hands to them and in the next second, huge bowls of food, ranging from soups, rice, chicken, and all sorts of dishes were placed on the table before us.
After serving us, they bowed and left the room, leaving us to eat, undisturbed.
Halfway into the meal, Lilith suddenly stopped eating and shot me a hard glare, one which made me stop eating too.
'What is it?" I asked. 'Don't you like the food?"
Ronan also stopped eating and stared at us, wondering what was about to happen.
'I love the food a lot, I was just thinking," she replied.
'Why did you stop eating then? What are you thinking about?"
She stared from me to Ronan, back to me before sipping some water from the glass cup before her. 'I passed by the kitchen on my way here and overheard some maids talking about Aria and Lydia. They've been missing since you called to see them. Any idea where they might be?"
I looked at Ronan and he looked at me. Together, we looked at Lilith and said… 'No!"
